The beginning of Vittorio Massone’s professional experience
After graduating in Economics with full marks at the Sapienza University of Rome in 1989, Vittorio Massone continued his studies at the Bocconi University of Milan, receiving a Master in Business Administration in 1992. He started his professional career in 1989 working as a Business Analyst for Klopman Textile Industry (Burlington Group) for two years. In 1993 he undertook a new professional experience, becoming an Associate at Value Partners, a management consulting firm founded in Milan. The following year he started to hold positions of increasing responsibility at Bain & Company, one of the most prestigious employers in the management consultancy industry: there he served first as Manager in 1995, then Partner in 1999, and Director in 2004. These work experiences led Vittorio Massone to be recognized as a leading figure in the global advisory business, in particular in the fields of telecommunications, media/entertainment, digital, industrial services, government, and automotive. Furthermore, thanks to his capacity in developing trusted relationships with CEOs and Boards, and to his skills in managing complex programs, he had the opportunity to work with top-level clients, such as Poste Italiane, Pagine Gialle, Walt Disney, Rai, Consip, Sviluppo Italia (currently Invitalia), Coni Servizi, Gruppo Espresso, and Il Sole 24 Ore.
The keys to Vittorio Massone’s successful career: team diversity and digital transformation
Currently Vittorio Massone ‘s career is dedicated to developing the digital transformation of important traditional companies, as well as to helping native digital companies to grow. His commitment to supporting the management of extremely complex operations was particularly strong when, from 1997 to 2008, he was involved in the turnaround of Seat Pagine Gialle (1997-2001) – where investors realized a return on their investments of approximatively 20 times – the acquisition of Virgilio/Matrix (1999), and the turnaround of Poste Italiane, where Vittorio Massone helped the Group to go from suffering a loss of 200M Euros to realizing an EBITDA of about 2Bn, and, in addition, this result was achieved without redundancies. His innovative managerial vision is based on team diversity, that is the full possibility to develop personal potential of each individual within a company. Considered as necessary for companies to succeed in the long term, he brought this vision with him to Johannesburg in 2010, when he joined Bain & Company Africa as Managing Partner. In South Africa he helped the company achieving market leadership in a few years, and his support was also fundamental to the opening of another office in Nigeria. Furthermore, he achieved a remarkable success during the turnaround of Telkom SA, a telecommunications company whose shares on the stock market grew from 14 to about 90 Rand. He successfully led Bain & Company African business until the end of 2018. Currently Vittorio Massone works as an expert in management and digital transformation.
