Vittorio Massone’s career path within the advisory business

With deep experience in the fields of Telecommunications, Media, Entertainment, Digital, Industrial services, Government, and Automotive, Vittorio Massone has a brilliant career with top roles in management and digital transformation. His professional life, both in Italy and abroad, gave him the opportunity to work with top-level clients, and to take part to particularly complex Transformations, which he led brilliantly and successfully. After graduating in Economics with full marks (Sapienza University, Rome) and obtaining a Master in Business Administration (Bocconi University, Milan), he started his career as a Business Analyst at Klopman Textile Industry (Burlington Group) in 1989. Four years later he undertook a new professional challenge and became an Associate at the management consulting firm Value Partners. In 1994 he continued his career by joining Bain & Company, where he held different positions of increasing responsibility: first Manager in 1995, Partner in 1999, and then Director in 2004. After gaining deep experience in the relevant sectors of Telecommunications, Media, Entertainment, Digital, Industrial services, Government, and Automotive, Vittorio Massone was involved in particularly complex Transformations, especially in functional areas such as strategy, organization, merger and acquisitions, customer experience, operations, and supply chain.

Vittorio Massone’s support to successful turnarounds

Vittorio Massone‘s ability to develop trusted relationships with CEOs and Boards, combined with his deep experience in the advisory business, led him to work with clients the likes of Poste Italiane, Pagine Gialle, Walt Disney, Rai, Consip, Sviluppo Italia, Coni Servizi, Gruppo Espresso, and Il Sole 24 Ore. One of the successful turnarounds he was involved in is the one of Seat Pagine Gialle, where he supported the Management in giving investors a return on their investments of 20 times (1997-2001). In the same period, in 1999, he supported his first acquisition in the digital field, namely the Virgilio/Matrix acquisition. He was also involved in the turnaround of Poste Italiane (2002-2008), when he helped the Group to go from suffering a loss of 200M Euros to realizing an EBITDA of about 2Bn, without redundancies. In 2010 he continued his career abroad, in Johannesburg, joining Bain & Company Africa as a Managing Partner. During this professional experience, he helped to create an excellent, ambitious and cohesive team – which went from nil to 200 people – a part of which was dedicated to digital projects and digital transformation. This was an important thrust to the remarkable growth of the company, that managed to achieve market leadership in South Africa in a few years. Vittorio Massone supported as well several other companies in Africa, and has been the leading figure for Bain & Company Africa until the end of 2018. His help was also fundamental during the turnaround of the telecommunications company Telkom SA, whose shares grew from 14 to a maximum of about 90 Rand. He was member of the Board, and then President of the American Chamber of Commerce in South Africa, as well as Member of the Council at Business Leadership South Africa. He is currently member of “YPO”, the Premier Leadership Organization of Chief Executive Officers, with approximately 28,000 members. A crucial aspect of his professional career is the relevance of “diversity” within the team, which is an important feature of Vittorio Massone‘s innovative managerial vision. He’s also Vice President of Alkemy.
