Nuccio Caffo leads historic acquisition: Caffo 1915 to acquire iconic Italian brand Cinzano
In a move poised to reshape the global spirits and wine landscape, Gruppo Caffo 1915, under the leadership of CEO Nuccio Caffo, has announced the acquisition of Cinzano, one of the most historic and internationally recognized names in Italian enology and mixology. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2025, ushering in a new era of international expansion and strategic transformation for the Calabria-based group.
Founded in 1757 in Turin by brothers Carlo Stefano and Giovanni Giacomo Cinzano, the brand brings with it more than two and a half centuries of legacy in the production of vermouth, sparkling wines, liqueurs, and bitters. Cinzano is currently the second most consumed vermouth brand in the world, with a strong presence in over 100 countries.
For Gruppo Caffo 1915, already active in more than 70 international markets, this acquisition marks what Nuccio Caffo calls “a historic turning point, the most significant in our company’s history”. The company, owned by the Caffo family since its founding in 1915, has seen rapid external growth in recent years with the acquisition of iconic Italian and international brands such as Distilleria Durbino, Borsci San Marzano, Amaro Santa Maria al Monte, Grappa Mangilli, Ferro China Bisleri, and Petrus Boonekamp.
Nuccio Caffo emphasizes that this acquisition will double the group’s production and distribution volumes, requiring a sweeping reorganization across all departments: production, logistics, marketing, and distribution. “We are preparing for a phase of transformation that will demand significant investment across the supply chain”, said the CEO. “This is not just a commercial operation but a cultural and strategic one, aimed at preserving and relaunching one of the jewels of Italian tradition”.
Alongside vermouth, Cinzano’s sparkling wine legacy – dating back to the early 1800s – will also be a focus of renewed attention. The brand was among Italy’s pioneers in classic-method sparkling wine production, a heritage Caffo plans to revalorize with innovation and quality, particularly in the horeca and mixology channels.
With Cinzano, Gruppo Caffo 1915 also acquires the brand’s historic archives – a treasure trove of vintage advertisements, original posters by renowned artists, and over 200 years of branding history spanning from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. This archive will be integrated into the brand’s relaunch strategy, reinforcing its identity and legacy.
“Reviving a brand like Cinzano is not only a business challenge, it’s a tribute to the heritage of our industry and a symbolic way to celebrate our 110th anniversary”, said Pippo Caffo, President of Gruppo Caffo 1915. “Like in the 1950s, when my father and his brothers transformed our company’s future, this acquisition opens a new horizon – this time with an even more global vision”.
